EXQUISITELY designed Bahraini gold jewellery bearing the internationally-recognised hallmark are carving a niche for Bahrain internationally, in addition to providing a major source of revenue for the country.

Following the success of the Wonders of Gold Exhibitions hosted by Bahrain in 1995 and 1996, BIEC, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Commerce, organised the third Wonders of Gold Exhibition which was held in Kuwait's Regency Inter. Continental Hotel from 31 March until 4 April 1998.

More than 8,000 visitors came to the first Wonders of Gold Exhibition to be staged outside Bahrain, which attracted in the participation of more than 30 jewellers from Bahrain.

Like the previous Wonders of Gold Exhibitions, the Kuwait fair showcased the talents of Bahraini designers and goldsmiths as well as some stunning pearl jewellery.

Sales in this year's show amounted to US$1.6 million. To firm up Bahrain's position as the Gulf"s trading capital for gold jewellery and to promote Bahrain as the region's centre of tourism, the Ministry of Commerce is planning to hold Wonders of Gold Exhibition twice a year - - once in Bahrain and another show abroad
