There are many gem stones but only nine gem stones are considered as precious gem stones these are called Navratna. These nine gem stones are given great importance by our great ancient scholars. They are powerful gems which reflect the strength of our planets and also produce changes in our body. Navratnas or the nine precious stones-Ruby, Pearl, Yellow Sapphire, Diamond, Emerald, Blue sapphire, Red Coral, Gomeda and Cat's Eye have great mystical and divine powers.
Ruby: Ruby is the stone of the Sun, and protects those who wear it, from the harmful effects of Sun. Ruby gives intelligence and knowledge. Ruby will protect from ill health and enemies, bring success in administrative fields, freedom from troubles, debts and diseases. It ensures long life and cures heart diseases. Pearl: Pearls are available in many colors. Round pearls are superior. It brings success in career and removes evil effects of bad spirits. It drives bad luck away and brings good luck .Pearl cures many diseases like mental disorder, asthma, cough, eye trouble, breathing troubles and lung disorders. Yellow Sapphire: It is available in light yellow or golden color. It should be heavy, transparent and glittering. Yellow Sapphire will make one intellectual, charitable, religiously inclined and respectable towards elders. It also acts as a protective charm. It ensures comfort in life. Those who suffer difficulty in education or property matters must wear yellow sapphire. Emerald: This is a beautiful velvety green color stone. The Emerald with a deep velvet green to grass green color, radiant, smooth, transparent, and with bright rays and water marks, and without any dots or spots is the best and most auspicious gem. It bestows good health, wealth, longevity and a smooth obstruction free life. It also helps control blood pressure and nervous problems. Diamonds: Diamonds are white, blue, red and black in color. It ensures longevity and advancement in life. It blesses the wearer with happiness, intelligence, name, fame, wealth and good fortune. It ensures abundant wealth and success in all ventures. It also helps cure diseases of the kidney. Red Coral: Red Coral as its name suggests, is generally of red color. It may even be of orange red color. Red color will bestow good health, courage, name, fame and happiness. The native would benefit from domestic harmony and gain of wealth. In olden days it was believed that the Red Coral would save the wearer from calamities like flood, fire and thunder. Blue Sapphire: This is available in dark ordinary or light blue colors. Blue Sapphire is ruled by Saturn. It is believed that if this gem suits the wearer it can give good results otherwise it may bring about adverse effects. Therefore one should wear Blue Sapphire only after a trial and should be set after a one week trial period. Gomeda: Its color is like red coloured smoke. The Ceylon Gomeda is of honey color. Gomeda will bestow good health, win over enemies and bring wealth and prosperity to its owner. It cures skin diseases. It ensures sound sleep and gives peace of mind. Cat's Eye: This is yellowish or blackish in color. Inside there is a shining band which moves when the stone is turned. This is a quick action gem and restores lost wealth.
